What are arts therapies?
Arts therapies are recognised and regulated psychotherapies which aims to help people come to terms with difficult feelings, events or memories that may be causing them problems. Art therapies are especially beneficial when individuals feel distanced from their feelings, when it is upsetting to talk about a painful experience or for individuals with communication difficulties.
Many people find art therapies can help them learn to deal with, and move on from their difficulties. Art therapists help people explore and articulate their feelings through creative activities such as making a model or piece of art, creating music drama and dance. Experiences or feelings that may be hard to put into words can be expressed through the artwork. Individuals do not need any skills or previous experience to benefit from art therapies.
