WISCP (West Indian Senior Citizen's Project)


WISCP provide a wide range of services for older frail people from the Black Caribbean community and their carers. Services include:-

Community Opportunities services (formerly day care services) are delivered flexibly and developed to offer a wide range of day opportunities, both venue based and in the community, in a group or at individual level, to support individual outcomes for all. They will offer disabled adults and older people activities and support to maintain and develop skills that will help them in their every-day lives including living, working and taking an active role in the community, as appropriate.

A Lunch Club service is provided for five days per week for older frail people from the Caribbean community, with a Caribbean-style healthy nutritious freshly cooked meal, and beverages.

WISCP provides a Community Meals service with a range of Caribbean style vegetarian and/or non-vegetarian community meals to people residing in the city of Leicester for 365 days a year including all Bank Holidays, catering for specific dietary needs i.e.- low fat, high fibre, low salt, small portions.

WISCP-LAT is funded by The Big Lottery Fund as part of Leicester Ageing Together. WISCP-LAT is a city-wide project that combats social isolation and loneliness through several different projects.

Advocacy & Advice is a confidential service to assist with issues affecting your quality of life. We offer information and advice in areas including housing, welfare benefits, and health and care. Appointments can be arranged.

WISCP-LAT''s Befriending & Mentoring service aims to tackle isolation and loneliness across Leicester City by connecting lonely/isolated older people with a befriender or mentor. We also encourage participation in activities and events which can lead to the development of new relationships. 

Carers Club is a social club for 50+ LAT beneficiaries. It is run and facilitated by volunteers and provides opportunities for support, respite and social interaction.    

The Older & Bolder project aims to engage and enable individuals to gain access to training and educational activities that build confidence, self esteem, and self reliance. It promotes the development of wider participation and active citizenship.       

The Mango Tree Cafe is a social club/cafĂ© that meets every Thursday from 3.00pm till late. It allows elders to participate in cultural activities, such as dominoes and chess, engage with  the wider community, build confidence and self-esteem, make new friends and learn new skills.
